The Yoga Sutra's of Patanjali. What an interesting name for a book or collection of writings to my western mind. I certainly did not know what to think, and perhaps this was just the right idea when reading this book. The magnetism of Consciousness drew me in whether or not my mind was on board and that speaks to the power contained therein. Enlightening to say the least is this earth shattering heaven sent treatise on the development of Human Consciousness into awareness of Infinity.
The first Sutra, "Now, the Teaching of Yoga" immediately captures my attention just as the present moment Is through the practice of Ascension. Maharishi Sadashiva Isham elaborates on the beautiful simplicity of these opening words; "Therefore the Science of Yoga begins and ends in the present moment". In the spirit in which MSI elaborates upon this Sutra I would like to add that if you could reduce the entire appreciation of Yoga down to just one word; "Now", would suffice. That is the Science of Union. There is a Love indescript here. There is a Peace unfathomable. There is a moment where time's machinations cease and the Absolute simplicity necessary to live Life as God intended is known. In the english language the word 'Now' is my favorite signpost. All of Patanjali's words after "Now" facilitate the Teaching of Yoga and tie together multiplicity of experience and human nervous system into a concise formula the sum of which is Awareness of the "Now", Now.
Tying together my growing awareness of the present moment with understanding shared by the Enlightened makes for an easier and more effortless transition into remaining rooted in the Now. For many, myself especially, the habitualized movement of the mind into past-tense and future-tense is ingrained. Experiencing the present moment while entirely effortless is also foreign in the context of how we've lived our lives in this modern world.
Before I sat down to write what is appearing on this page I was worried about the future of writing just this. It seemed if I didn't have a plan I wouldn't be able to offer anything of value. In as much we fool ourselves and detract from the essential Reality which inspires and enlivens creative action. It is always better to jump into the Ocean and move through the initial difficulty of learning to swim then to sit on a comfortable beach recliner looking at the water all day. LoL. Thus, sink or swim we can always live knowing the integrity of courage and initiative. I suppose you're thinking "well if you sink, you die"! But that is exactly where the wholly beneficent force of Infinity steps in to offer you just the assistance needed. You will learn to swim, dive, back stroke, butterfly stroke, and breach the surface in exquisite fashion like a dolphin enjoying his day. These Books, these Teachers, this Teaching, are the veritable guardians of Life assisting all swimmers across Infinite seas of Conscious expansion.
This is analogous to how I experience All of MSI's writing as well as the rest of the Ishaya's. There is an indescribable Bliss in not knowing... As we stare into the Abyss of Infinity, IF any doubt or fear or misunderstanding arises at all, there always is the compassion and wisdom of the enlightened to help guide us through. If none of these confusions arise then the compassion and wisdom of the enlightened is there simply to greet and welcome us home. This is Love. This is how I view The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. An invitation and a welcoming all at once. I Now wonder if I've written anything at all, and that is just fine.
