Our inner beliefs become “incarnate”; they become real on the outside. Therefore, the true battle must take place on the inside. The Oathmaster Joab describes this battle to Mars; “You will never understand until you master surrender, Mars. Your limited, ego-based will must die. Then you will understand the meaning of everything that has befallen you – and you will understand the great battle we are fighting for the mastery of all worlds and all times.” (p. 241).
It is only by letting go of our false beliefs and assumptions that we evolve and expand our current level of consciousness and experience something different in our lives. “As long as you believe in the possibility of suffering, you will weep for the awful agony of this world. But as you evolve, as you consciously dis-create more and more of your false conclusions about life, you will learn more and more thoroughly it is your beliefs that are making your Universe so. Your judgments of good and evil, your acceptance of pain, your belief in suffering is creating your Universe as it is. “You are the dreamer, shara! Wake up!” (p. 104). We do not have to feel pushed and pulled by life. The author here is very gently recommending us to ‘wake up’; that there exists more than we can imagine. “Beneath the ever-changing phenomena of existence lies the never-changing One. “ (p. 93). Once this is realized, true freedom dawns.
There are those who have walked this path already, and can guide those just starting. MSI portrays teachers or masters throughout the book helping and guiding humanity and individuals to evolve, such as Almira, Maitreya and the Oathmasters . For example, Venus, a character representing Almira, the Mother, offers complete unconditional love to Naisan, who is going through his own trials in life that are helping him to awaken to his own truth. She states, “Don’t allow illusions to cause you pain, beloved. Their changeable appearance of good and evil, of life and death, of happiness and suffering is never anything more than your self-created dream. Hold to the One, my only heart. This is your great test. Hold to the One, for only love conquers all. Only love. Only love conquers all. Only love. Only love.” (p. 159). She also advises, “Learn to awaken joy within yourself without needing anyone or anything else. Become established in your own inner strength, Naisan! (p. 136). This is an aspect of the book that I really love; these pearls of wisdom and encouragement. I feel like the author is speaking to me, nudging me along and offering advice, through the characters in the book, as they go through what I am going through in my life. All paths to enlightenment are the same underneath, and this book helps us to recognize these universal truths.
Second Thunder is helpful to those on a spiritual path to awakening. It contains supreme wisdom that can cut through any false ideas that we may believe. The characters interweave and incarnate into other characters as the book really spans many generations and worlds. This book offers a great gift: to awaken the truer aspect of ourselves that we may not yet be conscious of.
