Patanjali, the author of the Yoga Sutras that so many modern day yogis credit as the master of yoga, passed so much more to us than the physical stretches done in yoga class. The gift that was given to us in those Sutras has often been termed the Science of Union and is meant to encompass the entirety of the human experience, every moment of every day. (A great deal more than the brief moments experienced in savasana!) The definition of yoga is the joining of the lower limited individual self with the Divine that resides within all of us. Ultimately, the purpose of yoga would be to establish life in the constant state of Union, being the living breathing individual spark of the Divine.
Yoga is not a belief system or a religion; it is an inner science that is practical and precise. There is a very simple methodology used to unite the lower self with the Universal Higher Self. The systematic approach allows the aspirant to easily overcome all limiting self-destructive habits, to naturally and gracefully begin to live life in the present moment free from duality, in Absolute Joy. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali are the description of the nature, or the mechanics, of expansion of consciousness. Properly understood they can be the gateway to the graceful transition into more expanded states of consciousness.
MSI, a modern day master of Sanskrit and of the Science of Union, has taken this frequently misunderstood work of Patanjali and translated it into a clear and concise readable form. This commentary erases thousands of years of mistranslation based upon misinterpretation of the English/Sanskrit language or lack of first hand conscious experience of the science of evolving consciousness. Fortunately the door has once again been opened to the simple mechanics of yoga or enlightenment as written by Patanjali.
I invite you to explore this translation of the Yoga Sutras titled "Enlightenment" and engage in discovering the first-hand experience of the text for yourself.
